Sometimes it happens to have food cravings in the middle of the day that pushes you to eat the first thing that comes along.
The problem is that often you will be attracted by a sweets, which will stir up your craving for sugar. In these cases, it is preferable to choose foods that are very satisfying and not very sweet.
Proteins and fibres are the macronutrients that have the “appetite suppressant” effect.
You can eat a brownie and just after you want a second one. When you eat an apple, you are so full that you could not eat a second one. This is because there is a lot of fibers and it requires a lot of chewing.
Walnuts are rich in fat and omega 3, they are high in calories because of this but they are good quality fats. Nuts are low in sugar, which explains their satiating effect.
3. Boiled Eggs
In case of cravings, don’t think only of sweet products. You can just as easily eat 2 hard-boiled eggs, they are high in protein and fat and contain no sugar. They’ll keep you going until the next meal.
4. Low fat plain yoghurt
Unsweetened plain yoghurt has the advantage of filling the stomach well by providing protein, low fat and low carbohydrate. You can add red fruits but no sugar or the effects will be cancelled.
5. Raw carrots
There is nothing to stop you from biting into a carrot like you would bite an apple.
The fibers of the raw carrot are very hard and fill the stomach well. However, the carrots once cooked do not have the same properties at all because the fibers are softened by cooking.
To sum up, in case of cravings, do not go for processed foods but rather to simple and low sugar foods. Because the less sugar you eat, the less hungry you will be!
